(Note: From Perl version 5.10 onward, ++ is one of a set of valid regex metacharacter sequences ?+ *+ ++ {n,m}+ denoting a "possessive" quantifier that does not "give up" anything it may have matched. (Update: But +++++ is still invalid!))
