I think the cited sentence from the OP supports my reading -- that OP wants to learn some Perl, as well as his explicitly stated interest in Python and bioperl.

Does your response mean you think that interpretation is off-base? Do you suggest that one should not answer the Perl part of the question without also answering the Python and biological-studies elements?
