yes you can do that and there is also a much faster way to do it, here is a small example just to give you the idea: 
print <<END_HTML;        # any word will do
content-type: text/html  # there have to be two new lines .. first
                         # the second one
<HTML><HEAD> blah blah </HEAD>
<BODY>
blah blah ...
</BODY>
</HTML>
END_HTML                 # without ';'
