I recently came across the
Deleted Domains web site. This provides lists of all .com, .net, and .org domain names that have been deleted or placed on hold in the last 60 days, and makes for quite interesting and amusing reading.
Using the 'power search' page, the site shows that (at the time of writing) 119 of these domain names start with 'perl'. There are less 'perl' names than 'java' or 'php', but more than 'python', however without knowing how many names were registered and not deleted, nothing can really be inferred from this.
Most are fairly boring (which obviously explains why they've been deleted), but I do wonder why perlforswine.com was registered? Do farmers teach their pigs how to program now?
However by far the best (?!), is perldrunks.org. Considering that monasteries often used to brew their own beer, maybe this is an opportunity to sell PerlMonks branded ale as well as the mugs and shirts? :-)
