I think CVS may be leading down the right path. I am in the process to checkout the Perl Modules available.
Would be great to have LWP download the patchs automatically via cron; I like the patch utility, but I am not sure it is available on all Unix systems by default. A pure Perl solution would be the best.
Didn't Larry write the patch utility? It's probably ported to Perl anyway!
One problem is if a user edits a file, e.g adds their own small customization, pathname, config path , etc. Would be handy to use 'fuzzy' MD5 checksums on the files, to see which ones do not match with the current version.
Once finished, I will be sure to post the code.
