Well that was helpful wasn't it. Your solution, though perhaps faster and less cancerous, still is as helpful as a chocolate teapot with the original question. The eventual output is still going to be $b=~/(\|[\w\s]+){1}/ <=> $a=/(\|[\w\s]+){1}/ I'll ask again. Why is this not working. (incidentally, the lc was a hangover from using it on the cmp comparisons)
