But you admit that you "didn't bother to search CPAN". If you had bothered, you would have found several modules to do with modems. The first thing you should do when looking for a module that does FOO is to use search.cpan.org to search for FOO. You, however, appear to expect others to do that for you, because you can't be bothered to do it yourself.
