Surrounded by tomes of all sizes, the apprentice is bewildered...

If you were building a simple input manipulation CGI script, say a hex/dec converter or something like that, what permissions are more "secure," 744, 711, or something else? If the latter, what and why?

I ask as a part of my continuing studies into security. Perl/CGI/Unix is new to me, programming is not.
