I am trying to write a reentrant sub that will execute sql select statements e.g.

GetChildren($objID); Sub GetChildren{ ($objid)=@_; my $sth = $dbh->prepare("select objid,type from table where parenti +d=?") $sth->execute($objid) while (@row = $sth->fetchrow_array){ ($objid, $type)=@row; if($type="Container"){ GetChildren($objid); }else{ do something else } }
The problem is that the $sth is already executing the query, when the subroutine is called for the second time. Is there a way to make this reentrant? Thanks, S

Update: Thanks for all your suggestions, in the end I used ikegami's suggestion, as yes, it doesn't need to be recursive with that solution. Unfortunatly the DB is SQLServer, or I would use the connect by option. Thanks again, S
