I would say that one should hate advocacy when applied blindly. But perl is a special case because:

a) it really is the only language that can do everything any other language can do.

b) it suffers from blind prosecution carried out by blind advocates of other languages, because perhaps they find themselves frequently having to defend a decision not to use perl in complex integrated situations, which of course can often turn out badly.

Update: ok, I should have qualified a) with 'with reasonable feasibility' - of course everything can be done in assembler, but it still might not be feasible.
