I don't have statistics on hand, but if there are problems with mysql they would have caught the problem in the slow queries log file
Most of the time the slowness comes from Apache being loaded with many requests and some are coming from slow clients which means the process will kept open for long time rather than being freed up to be used for someone else.
Anyway I suggested to give it a try if it didn't make things better it can be disabled easily ,by commenting off the "LoadModule" line and restarting apache.
