Questions like this are best answered by *trying it out*, don't you think?
Of course it's kosher. The only issue is that you won't be able to make use of the autoquoting mechanism for hash keys.
perl -e 'print "How sweet does a rose smell? "; chomp ($n = <STDIN>); +$rose = "smells sweet to degree $n"; *other_name = *rose; print "$oth +er_name\n"'
