On a more serious note, I bet it has helped with the marketability of your books.

An hour of consulting work is worth several copies of a book sold, even with profit sharing between me and Onyx Neon.

Now if everyone on PerlMonks told ten people to buy a copy of my book (and not the same ten people)....
