but externals only works on files, not folders

So what is the problem you're having again ;-)

    argh, i typo'd
    i said it only works on files not folders, while it only works on folders not files and i showed an example of it working on folders not files, and asked how to make it work with files

    so me and the RTFM person are both idiots. but the question is still not solved.
