As discussed in Moving the site behind a CDN, we will soonish move forward with moving the site behind Fastly. In conjunction, the domains perlmonks.com and perlmonks.net will also redirect to perlmonks.org, to improve cache hit rate.

At least during the move the css.* domain will be unavailable, but as far as I understand the setup, we can later make css.perlmonks.org work again, especially for logged-in users.

For the time being, you can update your bookmarks to perlmonks.org and save the login cookies for that domain.

As for the timeline, the work is done by volunteers. I expect the DNS update and HTTP redirects to happen sometime next week.

Once again, many thanks for all your efforts, and those of everyone else involved.

I second Marto's appreciation and look forward to the results of everyone's hard work.

As a result, it will no longer be possible to have different login sessions on different domains. If you have multiple logins you use (and I recognize that exceedingly few people do), you will need to literally log out and log in with a different set of credentials to switch.

Consequently, the Domain Nodelet will be retired.

      What about www.perlmonks.org vs perlmonks.org ?

I occasionally need to check the anonymous view of the current page.

If the distinction of subdomains of .org is kept, so please keep a reduced Domain Nodelet too.

I occasionally need to check the anonymous view of the current page.

There are plenty of options for that. In probably decreasing order of user-friendliness:

        • Private Browsing Window
        • Different browser profile
        • Different browser entirely
        • Different client machine entirely
        • Log out and then back in again when done

        🦛

Looks like this is now in effect and the site is pretty responsive once more. Great work! Fingers crossed that this is a permanent improvement.

I'd like to suggest that the footer should also now include a link back to Fastly as a thank-you for their service. Some of the older links in the footer could do with an http⇨https tweak while you are in there.

Something is wrong: when I enter perlmonks.org in the URL bar, Firefox throws up a big scary warning that the certificate doesn't match the domain. It's a Let's Encrypt cert for dalalb.develooper.com.

However, when I enter perlmonks.com, I get redirected to perlmonks.org and there is no warning, the cert is correct for that domain.
