Can't install Math::BigInt::GMP

finfan has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I want to install this package so that Net::SSH::Expect runs faster. It take 30+ seconds per command right now. However, when I try to cpan install it, I get this....

  CPAN.pm: Going to build P/PJ/PJACKLAM/Math-BigInt-GMP-1.37.tar.gz

Can't link/include 'gmp.h', 'gmp'
No 'Makefile' created  PJACKLAM/Math-BigInt-GMP-1.37.tar.gz
  /usr/bin/perl Makefile.PL INSTALLDIRS=site -- NOT OK
[download]

Similar results trying to compile the package manually.

It's saying it can't find the header file and library from the GNU MP library. From the readme: "You need to install the Gnu MP library aka libgmp to compile this module."	[reply]

I have installed gmp-4.3.1-7.el6_2.2.x86_64. Is that not the correct package?	[reply]

depending on the OS/package management you'll need to install the -dev/-devel package	[reply]

Sounds, right, but I looked up the package, and I don't see the C header file gmp.h listed in the contents. You could either install from source, or try and figure out where your distribution stowed away the header file.	[reply]

i had to install the devel package gmp-devel.x86_64.	[reply]
