win32API midi input

spencoid has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

i have spent a lot of time trying to get the sample code from WIN32::API::MIDI to work for getting input from a variety of MIDI devices. i have tried everything i can and have had no success. this might be partly because i am using a win 8 computer. the examples with the distribution are not full working examples, critical parts are missing to get them to actually work. i really want a working example that will allow me to find midi input devices, choose one and monitor the data coming from it. i have searched the web extensively and cannot find any examples. please do not refer me to the example code with WIN32::API::MIDI the only "working" example is specifically for use with a device i do not have nor do i have the obscure information needed to make a config file to "fake it"

I think MSDN will have those examples :) If you've got linux/yamaha see just wanted to show what I managed to write with your help it might have examples/notes you can use	[reply]

Hi, I realise this is a two year old thread but in case you are still looking for help with this I have working code for detecting available MIDI devices, for MIDI OUT and sort of got MIDI IN working with WIN32API::MIDI, too. I'm saying sort of because I can receive sysex dumps but right after receiving them Perl terminates. It looks like something in WIN32API::MIDI causes this but I haven't figured it out yet. If you are interested in sharing experiences and working together on this give me shout.	[reply]
