There are some legal obligations to log IP addresses.

GDPR is more about "forgetting" private data related to marketing or "shared with" other companies.

None of these is the case here.

To be more explicit:

I won't get hotel and flight offers into my mailbox after /msging another monk about meeting in Riga.
No headhunter will call me after reaching sainthood.
Other websites won't suddenly start to show me ads about IT books because I created an account here.
