maybe in this case the use of "map" is a bit too clever?

Not even a little bit. Your comment only serves to illuminate what a joke of a "Perl programmer" you are. Please get lost.

Mm, I thought the idea of this part of the site was aimed at gently pointing the confused masses to the light, telling one of the benighted to get lost seems to go agains the founders principles. I would recommend you have a nice cup of tea and a lie down in a darkened room. J.C.

It would be one thing if this were a one-off case of well-intentioned but misinformed commentary. Unfortunately, this particular commenter - a user who goes by sundialsvc4 but who lately has been posting anonymously - has a long, ignominious history of posting garbage, and newbies need to be warned. • Re: Just curious: is there a BOT that downvotes "me?" "Your replies are typically vague, inaccurate, rambling opinion and never provide working code or useful links. Your answers are often irrelevant to the OP's question, just a vain attempt to appear knowledgeable. You make ignorant assertions pretending to be a question."
      • Re: Selling swimsuits to a drowning man "Eight times out of ten you post nothing but opinion. Of those eight, some are objectively, spectacularly wrong. This would not be an issue for a beginner but it is a real problem for industry veterans to be putting bad info online because the beginner cannot tell the difference and will listen to anyone who seems to have authority."
