I feel like this should go in confessions...

I know there are people here that dive in to Larry's Apocalypses with eager glee. I confess, I did that for the first one, but then it was just a little to overwhelming.

I am really glad Larry shepards perl, he does an amazing job. Likewise I am impressed and amazed that Damian cranks out his Exegesis afterwards even though I can't bring myself to read them anymore.

OK, I'll fess up. I am not a language designer or even a linguist! I am a guy who likes perl, admittedly likes it alot, and writes some code. When I have a job to do, perl is usually my tool of choice.

I am curious to know what is new and better (or just different but impacts me) but I can't spend hours everyday diving in to it.

In any case I saw this article: Perl 6 : Not Just For Damians and it was just my speed and actually got me excited again about change and I thought those of you that hadn't seen it might enjoy it.

By the way I feel a little ashamed to admit this and like this is blasphemy here at the perl shrine. Hopefully, I am not totally alone.

I think Larry's mantra -- that it's "officially OK" to speak/write in a subset of Perl -- applies equally well in your case. The fact that Perl is useful in so many environments means that many different people with different backgrounds get drawn to it.

Just as they may or may not use different subsets of the language, they have different sets of interests that map onto/around/etc the reasons they like/use perl. Hence when anything gets written about Perl, be it 5.6.1 or Perl6, it's likely that only a portion of the community will either a) grasp it or b) be interested in it.

So at least from my corner, I'd consider your point of view to be "unofficially OK" (since I certainly don't have the authority to declare anything officially :) )

Heh, I'm not sure why it's blasphemy, but then maybe I'm clueless (how would I know?).

But it's a great coincidence that you posted this, because I was thinking something along these lines last night as I went to sleep. Yesterday , there was a thread which brought up perl6, and it got me to thinking about the coolness of going from Apocalypse to Exegesis and then the Not Just for TheDamians. Really the latter two are where I pick up the new stuff, by looking at examples. And I was thinking how I'd post a Meditation here asking for more examples of what cool things could be done. Instead of having three articles per Apocalypse, we'd have a dozen! What will be the new idioms in perl6? I imagine people like those here will be the ones who discover the new Schwartzian Transforms and other cool tricks.

Does this mean I'm going to write another 30 of these things?
