It looks like ImageMagick (available at CPAN) supports EPS files, but I haven't tried installing it. It looks like a bear of a module, but you /may/ be able to install it without needing to compile a binary via hack-and-slashing the module code. EPS files are tricky since they can basically handle just about any other kind of data. Corion's node may have more information.

If it were me, and I couldn't get imagemagick or another lib to work, I'd probably resort to using Photoshop's automation techniques. Sorry I can't be of more help...
