I was wondering what trick you used to prevent the flattened list to go into the first hash only. Looks like there's none: 

$VAR1 = {
          'c' => 'black',
          'a' => 'red',
          'b' => 'green'
        };
$VAR2 = {};
$VAR3 = {};
