Well, just looking back through Perl News reveals the announcement of an IRC channel, modules releases, new books in print, an ActivePerl release and an interview with Larry Wall. From this I deduce that announcing channels, modules, books, code and interviews is approved of.

Looking at it more generally, it should soak up a lot of the post that went into discussion, like "New apocalypse" or "New article on Perl.com" or whatever.

Personally, I hope it goes further and people start posting interesting stuff like announcements of projects too large to fit into the catacombs, or that there will be an informal perl meeting somewhere.

I'm sure the community will let you know when you've overstepped by a liberal application of the -- option.
