I'm wondering what people here use to obscure the username/password they use in their perl scripts to connect to a DB?
This comes across the age-old problem of needing the password secure - but to still make it accessable to whatever needs to find it...
So: Your perl script connects to a RDBMS. This naturally requires a username/password to connect.
You don't want this findable should someone break into your server and find the perl scripts.
But if the perl scripts need to get to the password - is there anyway to stop any intruder from doing the same?
And then, continuing that line of thought, using a local method (Say scripts of his own, or maybe install an client) to connect to that database and get to the raw data?
Much obliged for the thought processes;
