What about searching the docs or the site first: the doc of Text::Iconv is pretty good, a search on 'character encodings', 'unicode' or 'utf8' in the Search box returns plenty of interesting nodes too: Re: How do I convert a string to Unicode and back (v5.005_03)? or Converting character encodings, or UTF8 to Latin-1 and back using Perl-6 or Converting from utf8 to latin1.
There is a reson the nodes are archived: you get the answer to common questions faster and without bothering people.
