If you can convince someone at work to invest in dead tree doco, have a look at Rapid Development by Steve McConnell for project best practices. (His Code Complete 2 is an excellent guide for programmers too). And if you still have money in the kitty, check Under Pressure and on Time (no, I don't work for Microsoft Press ... these are all really good books!)
