No I hadn't. Anyway I'm not using it for anything other than my own personal interest, and the translations are shit besides... But I guess I'll have to confine it to babelfish (assuming that is ok)... Anyway that had basically nothing to do with my question which was far more general. I figured out the answer, which was to just use use Encode; and then do something like
$out = decode("shiftjis", $res->content);
That works. But you need to have the encoding.
