Here's how you would do it in Python:
from datetime import datetime
date_format = '%a %b %d %H:%M:%S %Y'
beginning = datetime.strptime('Thu Oct 24 17:37:58 2007', date_format)
end = datetime.strptime('Fri Oct 26 06:54:09 2007', date_format)
diff = beginning - end
print 'Difference in seconds:', diff.seconds
I'm not sure how to do it in Perl, I checked the Date::Manip CPAN module but it doesn't have a way to set the format that it uses to parse dates.
You
could use a regular-expression to parse it out and then convert it to a format recognized by the ParseDate function in Date::Manip
Edit: Thanks a lot to the jerks who down-modded me. I thought Perl was about There's More Than One Way To Do It?
