I'm wondering whether PerlMonks should have a standard netiquette message for homework submissions (I did a quick search and found nothing). Something that is provided for the student to understand what they should do to maximize his/her response. A link could be shown prominently in the document you get when you sign-up (I'm not sure how to tell Anonymous about this).

The document could be simple. Something like:

About homework: The Monks enjoy helping people solve Perl problems and this extends, modulo a few simple requests, to homework. If you're asking for homework help, you really should do the following.

• Be up-front about it. The subject should start with Homework Help:.
• Try to solve the problem yourself and show what you've done.
• Ask for hints, not a complete solution.
• Tell the monks where you're having trouble so that they know where to direct their efforts.

Following these simple guidelines will help you get the most out of your PerlMonks request and avoid the scorn heaped so heavily on those who don't.
