hi
I'm new to Perl and looking for solutions to access some parts of an URL. I've googled a lot and searched the forum of Perl Monks but couldn't find a solution. My problem is the following:
For example two urls:
- http://bar.com/list/file-5.6-win32.zip
I'm interested in the following parts:
- just the filename like:
-- pkg-5.6.tar.gz
-- file-5.6-win32.zip
and
- just the filename without the extension(zip, tar.gz) like:
-- pkg-5.6
-- file-5.6-win32
How can this be done with out the help of any modules like use File::Basename?
Sorry that I don't come up with a proposition - I'm still working on it.
thanks
Ben
