Why PHP is preferred over Perl nowadays for web development?.
Is it because PHP is easy to learn compared to Perl?.
Because I felt comfortable learning perl because I have a C background. Without C background is it difficult to learn Perl and only for this reason lot of people are going for PHP?.
I still amaze why people are going for PHP than Perl, because IMO Perl is widely used and it has a better community for support/help, Perl has CPAN (better than PEAR for PHP).
Are there any other comparisons available to find out which is more suitable for web development; either Perl or PHP?.
For eg, some comparison points may be, execution speed of the script, interactions with wide variety of databases, etc.
I still wanted use Perl for my web development but I must know this highlights; because people around me are using PHP for web development. My idea is not to debate with them(PHP developers) which is the best, but to sustain with Perl and to know the pros and cons, at-least I must be able to justify the reasons for choosing Perl for web development projects to my superiors/clients.
More over I feel that this is the better place to ask.
