That is not descriptive enough, and you haven't shown enough of your code, but here are a couple suggestions:

• chomp:

  chomp @list;
  [download]

• If there are any special regex characters in your list.txt file, you could use quotemeta:

  print grep (/^\Q$test/,@large);
  [download]
