For what it's worth,
footpad suggested the idea to all of the
janitors at once, and requested feedback. Everyone who offered an opinion (to my knowledge) supported his action. You are welcome to disagree with the action, but I will personally vouch for the fact that
footpad saw an awkward situation, came up with a plan that neither rewrites history nor substantially changes the messages presented, and sought feedback from his peers.
A bonus thought for everyone who had to wade through that last sentence: the janitors have the power not only to erase people's words, but to change them. This is never an easy decision, and several of the servants have mentioned the burden. "Heavy on the head weighs a crown." We're doing the best we know how to do. (It's Sunday morning here, you get a sermon.)
Now go out and be good to each other. Encourage the kind of behavior you want to see. Move ahead.
