To solve your problem, you need a hash of arrays: 
my %chores = (Monday    => ["dishes"  , "1"],
              Tuesday   => ["vacuum"  , "2"],
              Wednesday => ["garbage" , "3"]);

my $value = join ' ', @{ $chores{Wednesday} };
print "$value\n";
