Installing perl module

kbforme has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello..
I need to install IO::Stty and Expect Modules on windows..

I have unzipped the modules and have copied those to the Perl\lib dir.. When I try to use makefile.pl, I get the following error.

Now let's see what we can find out about your system
(logfiles of failing tests are available in the conf/ dir)...

ERROR: cannot run the configured compiler 'cl'
(see conf/compilerok.log).  Please fix this by adjusting
perls Config.pm, creating a symlink to the right location
or maybe by just adding it to your PATH.  You could also build
perl yourself.

Can any one please help me in getting those two modules installed?

The error is telling you that you need the compiler that built perl in order to build these particular modules. Do you have access to the cl compiler? That being said, my exposure to windows is very limited (by choice!) but I don't think either one of these modules is going to work very well on a windows box. The Expect documentation mentions that it will only work under cygwin (and from your need for cl, I'd guess you're not running under cygwin). -derby	[reply]

To my knowledge, IO::Stty (and therefor, Expect) won't install on win32 natively. I've heard tales of people who got them to compile under cygwin but I've never actually seen one.	[reply]

I don't know what kind of Perl you are using, but if you use ActiveState you can install IO::Stty via ppm, at least the ActiveState BuildStatus says so (checked for perl versions 5.8 and 5.6). ciao knoebi	[reply]
