I did not see any explicit ERROR line in the trace call. I had done with 2 earlier. Like you suggested i raised it to 3, but didnt see anything extra. The variable "sid" in the DBI->connect, does that refer to the database i am tryin to connect to or somekind of an ID of the DATABASE?	[reply]

I'm not an Oracle guy, but a google search reveals that the Oracle SID is the System Identifier, and collectively, the configured SIDs can be found in the /var/opt/oracle/oratab file.
