DBI Query Timeouts

jeffthewookiee has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Does DBI support a way to set timeouts for long-running queries? Specifically I'd to force a long-running MySQL query to timeout and throw an error, rather than running forever.

Read "Signal Handling and cancelling operations" in the DBI manual carefully. I'm not aware of any mysql-specific issues or techniques - for one, it seems DBD::mysql does not implement a working cancel() method. "What should it profit a man, if he should win a flame war, yet lose his cool?"	[reply]
