I always thought of it as "space opera", the classic "good-vs-evil battles".

That's the way it looks now. In 1966 it was the first SF series that touched on (for example) computer records being hacked, or race hatred or the problems involved in First Contact situations.

A lot of this is overlooked now because of the less than stellar acting and cheap sets. But when it first ran, it was pure imagination.

*it was pure imagination* Yeah its funny how they brought it back down to reality, as modern society advanced. The first thought that pops into my "green mind" when I think of Star Trek now, is how eventually they learned "that warp drive was polluting sub-space" and to throttle back from warp 7. :-) Can you IMAGINE the uproar if it became known that migraines are caused by UFO's running their engines improperly. :-) I'm not really a human, but I play one on earth. its funny how they brought it back down to reality, as modern society advanced. I carry a Palm Pilot (in some ways more powerful than the PDP-10 I worked on in 1972), and a Razor Cellphone. A Tricorder and a Communicator. I live in my own future. Where's my phaser and flying car?	[reply]
