I don't know anything about JMP, but what does ITEM_1 mean? I would expect something like 
ITEM_1 = (100,200);
ITEM_2 = (200,150); 
etc
etc

what are you trying to plot? What shape do you expect the items to be represented as?...a point, a line, a circle?
