I'm sure you're being honest about this; it's just that we get the "you know Perl, you could write this for me (free)" thing a lot and are a bit shy of it now. We do contribute to things, but each thing we contribute to spreads us thinner. Will this really fly? WIll I end up putting a lot of time into it for nothing? Will I get the credit for the work I put in?
It's like the "title game" that musicians play sometimes late after a few beers and a long day: make up cool album and song titles. Everyone knows that it's easy to do this, but really hard to make 3, 5, 10 minutes - or an hour - of good music to match them. Anyone that says "we could do that album" would be expected to do some songwriting and playing - or is an A&R person, and will try to get all the credit without doing any of the real work...
