Please unconsider

by hv (Prior)
on Sep 18, 2022 at 22:30 UTC ( [id://11146957]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

I considered node 11146956 as "fix link" because the author had entered something like [<a href=...>link</a>]; but it seems the author noticed it too, because when I hit "moderate" the page refreshed with the link already fixed (moved to the end, with no markup). That leaves the consideration looking like a request for something else entirely.

I can't remove the consideration myself, right? (Perhaps unconsider could be automatic if the first vote is "keep", and made by the considerer? Or maybe that's just too much magic.)

I'll try to remember to make consider requests more explicit in the future. (But I suspect edits by the author are hard to anticipate.)

Ah thanks, I had both missed the brief paragraph on this in the help page and failed to understand that janitors were a messageable entity.

I just tested with the help of Athanasius++, if the original author is messaged if his node is considered. Apparently not.

I've seen many edit-considerations including the text "author messaged", maybe it could be an idea to automatically message any non-anonymous author, if the consideration includes the word /^\s*edit/i at the beginning.

(yes relying on text recognition is fuzzy, but otherwise we'd need to extend the form, and that's a practical and fast solution. see also Re: Please unconsider )

I think we - the considerer - are somewhere encouraged to message the author before considering.

It would be much easier, if edit-considerations were automatically forwarded to the author with an explicit link to the edit form (by adding ;displaytype=edit )

Like that the consideration could still be realized, after the author stayed inactive.

I'd say far too much magic.

It would be nice tho, if janitors could see, whether the node was edited since the consideration.

... message the author before considering

Except in the case of Anonymous Monk, of course.
