Oh my God, not again!
Did you type Text Editor in the convenient
Search box at the top of the page? The first hit is
a discussion of the merits of various editors...
Or did you have a look at Outside Links?
Over 30 editors are listed there.
That said, of course I use Vim!

Just have a look at Outside Links. Myself, I'm continously
switching between vim, xemacs and jed. And of course,
I use a2ps for printing.
Jeroen, who has little gusting for a vi/emacs war today.

I guess it won't help you much(as you seems to work on unix), but for some of us forced to work on windoze, I would recommend : Ultraedit
(syntax highlighting, code execution, and lots of usefull features...)
UPDATE : mirod is right everything is said here

vim is AWESOME. The highlighting is great. It is pretty configurable.
You can split the window if you need. Highly recommended.

I highly recommend GVIM (www.vim.org), Granted, it has a steep learning curve, but it's worth the power you gain in the end. If you don't want to spend the time learning vim-ese, there are still friendly editors out there which provide color syntaxing. VisualSlickEdit and UltraEdit are two such editors.

I like xemacs with cperl-mode, myself.
If I'm stuck in Windows (the horror!) and can't even use Exceed or similar to get at xemacs, then I go for Homesite 4.5. | [reply] |
