Point taken, thanks for the advice. It`s definitely a shame that no other script language derivates the ideas of Perl. Since I know JS enough for simple end user scripting, I`ll stick with it... or till Perl-Java hybridization gets further, so I`ll be prepared for that hour. Regards.

In some way, if compared with something sufficiently different (say Fortran), it might exhibit some similarities. Don't expect to like Ruby if you like Perl though and don't expect to like the community if you like this one. Ruby is an ill-designed language with annoying syntax, artificial restrictions and insanely named builtins and libraries. Luckily the hype has faded away already. Jenda Enoch was right!
