"Does not work" is sufficient to describe a problem with that guy that is taking "a little break" for seven hours straight instead of doing his job. "Does not work" is far from being sufficient to describe your problem. Were's the error message you got from perl or the FTP library or the FTP server? Did you even try to upload manually using a different ftp client to make sure you are allowed to upload?
