At work I have to configure the cpan client to work, perhaps you could do the same or if any other restrictions are in place discuss the issue with your systems/network administrators.

Actually if you run the portable version of Strawberry Perl with minicpan, say on a USB drive, you could always ensure that you sync your minicpan whilst connected to a computer which allows you to connect without going through a proxy

I have been successfully doing this in a fully locked down corporate environment and it works a treat!!!

If it was fully locked down, then your USB drive wouldn't be very useful. Unfortunately, I work at such a place. I can't even use the DVD player to play audio CDs. It's bad enough that I don't use my work laptop at work for doing anything but EMail and accessing the corporate net. For real work, I use my pre-merger laptop. What makes it worse is that I'm always having to switch between the machines, and the screen timeout on the useless (corporate) laptop is painfully short, and unchangeable, so I'm always having to re-enter my password to get back into the thing.

        Just curious, what is that?

Some folks I knew though 15minutes was too short
