in reply to Monk Node Wars

I don't think there's a need of starting a "home node war" or something like that... rather, I think that the simple ability to ++ or -- a home node should be enough. Maybe, by making possible to vote on someone's home node once a week or something like that. I myself always wanted to ++ some home nodes (never wanted to -- one, though), so I would really like to see this (or something like this) implemented.

Personally, I think the idea to allow ++ on home nodes is good, but not if allowing -- were a contingency, for a couple of reasons:

    • Users should have a means to exress themselves without fear of being --'d. Currently, this is limited to our user name choice, home node contents (or lack thereof) and use of the CB. I know you said that you wouldn't -- a home node, but that doesn't mean less scrupulous users wouldn't if given the opportunity.
    • Users that don't know how (or prefer not) to modify their home nodes should not be penalized.

Perhaps a better forum for this would be a weekly poll that counted votes based on write-in nominations.

Perhaps users could be given the option to "present" their home nodes as available for voting? This method would :

      • Bring the concept closer back to the original contest idea, though perhaps slightly less competitively
      • Not penalize new users or users who wish to use their home nodes for personal expression only.
      • Permit --'ing the home nodes of only those users who willingly choose to run that risk

      Just a thought,

I'm afraid I'd still have to stick with the weekly poll idea for write in votes (not ++/--). Perhaps the weekly winners could garner a few XP but I can't see giving oodles of XP for home node decor.

Well I guess I should have titled it more of a "contest" rather than a war :o).

That is an excellent idea acid06! I have always wanted to ++ peoples home nodes once in a while. Good idea!
