If I used single quotes then I should not have this problem? Yes :) maybe :) try it out perlrebackslash#All the sequences and escapes	[reply]

That is correct. The only oddball is is a backslash at the very end of a string, its same for both `'\\' or "\\"` , but thats a compiler error, perl would let you know `Can't find string terminator "'"...`	[reply] [d/l] [select]
