This topic is discussed often. Super Search->login website, or variants of these terms. Ensure that you comply with the terms and conditions of use of the target site.

      my intentions are noble.

Unfortunately, there is no way how one can prove one's intentions.

Besides, the site owner might have reasons to limit access even for people with noble intentions (e.g. traffic, or whatever)...

    Anonymous Monk,
I have read through their Terms Of Service and verified there is no mention of prohibition of (bot, crawler, automated login, etc). You are on the right track with WWW::Mechanize. You may run into problems if the site uses Javascript or cookies. Typically what I do is use the Firebug plug-in to Firefox. Then, I examine the interaction with the website and duplicate it.

If you can convince me this is for a legitimate purpose, I would be willing to write a fully working program that logs in.

    Cheers - L~R

Thank you, but ill rather make something myself. I allready can login but i cannot reach the page i need, but im getting there i hope. tx for replying. Take care.
