in thread Lots and lots of arguments!

Sometimes i wonder if a reply by you is an honor or a penalty.

I think you mean something like: ./foo.pl a b c d e f g h (and many more).

And me: ./foo.pl -a nose -b cuke -c foo -d bar | ./bar -t -A -e (and many more).

"...a phrase like "four or five seems a bit on the outrageous side", I suspect that I have little idea what is really being talked about.."

Aha. I see it clearly now. That means i don't have a little idea?

Anyway, my best regards, Karl

    karlgoethebier:

I think it's more like this:

    find /some/place -type f -print0 | xargs -0 ./foo.pl

I've already done that a dozen times today. I'd agree that typing in very many arguments by hand would be a PITA, but quite a few of us automate our already-automated tasks.

When your only tool is a hammer, all problems look like your thumb.

      "...more like this"

      Yes sure. I surrender.

May be i misunderstood the OP.

I thought the problem was about having a command line like:

      ./myCommand -a foo -b bar -c nose -d cuke --penalty tye  -g lorem -h ipsum -l and perhaps 20 more?

And this is a ugly command line interface.

Thanks roboticus for clarifying and best regards, Karl

FWIW, that’s how I read it too but rereading it I see that my brain silently substituted flags/switches for arguments. Even as it stands, the OP is vague enough that I’m not positive which is really meant. The context still suggests flags because worrying about an argument list that small is, as noted by others, a little odd.
