How do we set debug to our suit

abdan has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

How do we set the Perl's debug configuration in the terminal when doing perl -d -e "1;" on that so that it can perform moving the cursor left if LEFT key is pressed and moving the cursor right if RIGHT key is pressed, and retrieve the previous commands have been typed if the UP key is pressed and so on.

Have you looked at Readline Support / History in the Debugger? It says that installing one of the Term::ReadLine modules enables readline-style editing in the debugger.	[reply]

on Linux you'll need to install Term::ReadLine , IIRC Cheers Rolf _{(addicted to the Perl Programming Language :) Wikisyntax for the Monastery}	[reply]

G'day abdan, Welcome to the Monastery. Following ++Corion's link (in "Re: How do we set debug to our suit") to "Readline Support / History in the Debugger", I noted that I'd had issues installing the same modules that are listed there. I was installing these for the cpan utility, not the debugger; however, as they're the same modules, it shouldn't matter what they're ultimately used for. I resolved all issues and documented what I did: if you also experience installation problems, you might find some help in "cpan: Terminal does not support AddHistory.". — Ken	[reply]
